The Amarina is a new beach hotel on the undeveloped north coast of Nosy Be. With its pristine location, range of facilities and attention to detail, the Amarina sets new standards in Madagascar.

The Amarina opened in July 2004 and is a tribute to the perseverance and faith of one woman, Yvonne Ross, who caused it to rise along an untouched sandy beach at the end of a rudimentary road abandoned since the departure of the French. At a forgotten corner of the world, she created a luxurious small resort hotel, with fine food, elegant furnishings and a wide range of facilities.

The hotel has 38 rooms housed in thatched bungalows set among palm trees and tropical gardens along the beach. The 27 superior rooms are 47 m2 and decorated in clear colours. All are sea-facing and equipped with air-conditioning, safe, tea/coffee facilities, mini-bar and DVD player. Each room has a private terrace, bathroom with shower, bath, hairdryer and Molton Brown toiletries, and a separate w.c.

The Amarina also offers accommodation in two duplex senior suites, with separate sitting room; eight vast junior suites occupying the entire top floor of the bungalow; a family suite; and a superior room with wheelchair access.

The hotel has an elegant open-air restaurant at which you can order from a gourmet menu based on fresh produce. There is a beach side bar where you can enjoy a drink while watching the spectacular tropical sunset, or the bright stars of the Southern Hemisphere. Or you could watch the sunset over the ocean from the beach side Jacuzzi, large enough for two.

The large pool provides the opportunity for serious swimming, serious lounging, and a separate area for children. Pedalos, kayaks, canoes and snorkeling equipment are at your disposal. The Amarina has its own dive and water sports centre; or you can try for tuna, swordfish, bonito or marlin game-fishing from the well-equipped and expertly staffed fishing boat.

The hotel can arrange a wide range of excursions, including day-trips to Lokobe Nature Reserve, or to the islands of Nosy Iranja, Nosy Komba, Nosy Tanikely and Nosy Sakatia.
