Welcome to Epupa Falls Lodge – Kaokoland – Namibia
Frothing masses of water tumbling over ancient, richly coloured rocks create a fine mist behind which a delicate rainbow shimmers. The rumbling of the river breaks the humbling silence of this vast land which has remained virtually unchanged for thousands of years. Baobabs perched precariously on the steep rocks personify the tenacity it takes to survive in this remarkable and remote land.
Nine luxury safari style tents ensure that you will experience this land of contrasts and rugged beauty in perfect comfort and our intimate, personalised service will allow you to unwind and absorb your surroundings. All tents have electricity and mosquito netting and an outside, shaded balcony overlooking the tranquil Kunene river.
The adjacent dining room and lounge area also face the Kunene River, along with a lounging pool for cooling down from the midday heat, or enjoying a glass of sparkling wine while watching the sunset. A small suspension bridge connects Epupa Falls Lodge with its own private island with hammocks, benches, and lounge chairs along the river to create your own little piece of paradise.
At Epupa, guests have a variety of activities to choose from, which include visits to the Himba settlement, self guided hikes along the river or into the surrounding hills to explore the flora and fauna of the Kaokoland and enjoy stunning views of the Kunene snaking its way through the dry desert landscape. Alternatively, a 4×4 game drives where you will enjoy sundowners whilst overlooking the Epupa Falls, as the surrounding desert landscape explodes in colours and fascinating shadows. Guests staying for 2 nights also have the option of enjoying their sundowner on one of the white sand beaches on our private island, overlooking the Kunene River. Additional activities include rafting for the more adventurous, and for bird enthusiasts we offer half-day river birding trips by boat, where our expert guide will point out some of our 238 different species that inhabit the Kunene region.
